Scharlooweg 79

It was not until 1994 that this magnificent monument was acquired by Stadsherstel Willemstad, but is was a memorable transaction as, in our humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful monuments on the island!

After restoration it became part of the headquarters of the Nationaal Archief. Their offices are spread over 3 buildings of which the administration is housed in this Stadsherstel property.

Everyone knows that our Nationaal Archief is in the famous green monument on the Scharlooweg, the one called "Bolo di Batrei" or "Bruidstaart" by locals, meaning "decorated cake" because the building looks like one. But since the Archivo Nashonal has over 4km of documentation of the past, you can imagine that they need quite a bit of space to keep all of this safe. So there is a separate new building where everything is archived. Not many people know that our monument right next to it also forms part of that same organization. In tall light blue monument is where the administrative department is housed.

If you are interested in the history of these two monuments, you can read an article on the website of Nationaal Archief about the buildings they are housed in.

We are very proud of to have this property in our portfolio and of the important function it has. The grandness of it's architecture is amazing.
